Lesquerde

LESQUERDE

Lesquerde , small yet charming village in the Fenouilledes , set in the foothills of the Corbières and overseen by an iconic rock. Here there are many opportunities for interesting discoveries : good walking country and a must for all wine lovers : diversity of soils etc ...

To get to Lesquerde from SAINT PAUL DE FENOULLET , you have to go through a gorge carved out by the river Agly . Here you can stop and admire the small arched Roman bridge over the river whose seemingly fragile construction has resisted countless floods. Right there at the side of the gorges is a mineral spring that reputedly has healing qualities and which you are at liberty to drink from. You can then follow the wine route alongside the Via Ferrrata (for the more athletic) before the road opens out into an astounding landscape.

At the entrance of the village is a gypsum quarry that is still mined. On the hills above the village we can see the now disused iron mine and finally, after passing through to the far side of the village you will find the Lesquerde cooperative winegrowers cellar where you will be offered a wide range of excellent A.O.C.wines that have boosted the reputation of this village.

The Brotherhood of Lesquerde winegrowers organize a large Truffle fair every year on the second Sunday in February, which features many local products as well as Truffles and wine.
